The Beefeaters remained tied with the Cougars and Saints after downing the Ottawa Sooners 38-25 on Saturday at City Wide Sports Field.
The Beefs took control right from the start as kicker Brayden Rivard recovered his own onside kick-off at the Ottawa 53-yard line. Four plays later, running back Dayshawn Jacobs scampered 26 yards for a touchdown. Brayden Rivard made the first of his 5 converts and the home team was up 7-0 less than two minutes into the contest. As the first quarter was winding down, DJ Fonti found his brother Nick open for a 26-yard touchdown pass and the period ended with London up 14-0.
Six minutes into the second frame, Rivard hit a 42-yard field goal toup the score to 17-0. At the 12:18 mark of the second quarter, Sooner receiver Heaven Moke hauled in a pass for a 16-yard touchdown and the convert made it a 17-7 game. With just over a minute left in the first half, DJ Fonti found Josh Isyemi in the endzone for a major and the half ended with London up 24-7 over the Sooners. Just under eight minutes into the third quarter the Beefs added another touchdown on a spectacular 104-yard pass and run from DJ Fonti to Brandon Visouvath to increase the lead to 31-7. Ottawa responded shortly after with a touchdown by Ryan Smetana. The PAT was unsuccessful and the Beefs led 31-13. With seconds remaining in the third quarter, RB Zach Dewlo powered his way into the endzone from 18 yards out to add to the Beefs’ total.
In the fourth quarter, Ottawa added two unconverted touchdowns, one at the 15:00 minute mark, to close the gap but the outcome wasn’t really in doubt.
Brandon Visouvath ended his day with 190 yards on 5 receptions while Jason Leonard had 46 yards on 3 catches. Eight other Beefs hauled in passes from DJ Fonti who completed 18 passes for 369 yards. Xavier Zatylny added 23 yards to the passing total on 2 completions.
Dayshawn Jacobs led the ground game with 95 yards on 13 carries and Zach Dewlo chipped in another 21 yards. In total the Beefs rushed for 124 yards.
The defense was led by Davian Wilson and Declan Cullen who each had an interception and a total of 14 defensive points. Chris Dore also had 14 defensive points and Noah Williams added another 10 defensive points. In total, 20 Beefeater players gained defensive points.
